Happy official first day of fall! (…she wrote in her draft, thinking she actually would get this up on the first day of fall. Whoops.) I’m always excited for autumn. It’s one of my favorite seasons, and I’ve done a blog post celebrating it…I was going to say nearly every year since I began my blog, but looking at my archives has confirmed that I’ve put up an autumn-themed post every single year.
In the past couple years, my mom had the fun idea of our taking a picture of the trees behind our place every day of October, so we could see the progression of the leaves. This inspired me to attempt this year to take a picture of the trees every day of autumn. (And then I promptly missed the very first day. But I began on the first full day of fall, so that sort of kind of counts.)
In any case, I thought it might be fun to do a few blog posts throughout the fall, sharing these autumn pictures with you. And as you’ve probably deduced, I thought I would start posting them today.

Pretty green still, as you can see (though some leaves began falling from the trees almost exactly when the calendar decreed it autumn, which I enjoyed).
Also, every day so far except yesterday, I’ve managed to take footage of squirrels as well – I’ve begun keeping the camera by the back door, in fact, so that I can just take a picture or video through the glass window if I happen to glance out and see one. So I might as well share a daily squirrel picture/video screenshot too.

I’m not sure how much you can see it in the pictures, but we are getting some leaves turning already (as you can see from the title picture)…not too many yet though.
I also thought I’d share a vintage autumn song for each installment, just because Why Not. And since it is a rainy September day, today I’ll share “September in the Rain” by Frank Sinatra.

P.S. I’m very sorry I’ve been so terrible at blogging of late! It’s just been so busy that I really haven’t had time…as aforementioned, it took me almost a week just to write this (not exactly verbose) blog post. I’m really hoping to get more time for it, though, because I’ve missed you all!

Ohhh, the trees, the trees, the glorious trees… *swoons* This is what your BACKYARD looks like?? Oh, but you’re making me miss having foresty places out the back door, I’m practically gobbling up the pictures 😄What a wonderful idea for a post, too, now I wish I had thought of it myself when our leaves were just beginning to change!
Also. My mind is being somewhat boggled now that the squirrel has got a really truly acorn (I think?) in its paws… I mean, of course it must be normal there, but acorns are such storybookish and un-Canadian things that it still startles me to see😄
I *do* love living with trees all about me…isn’t there an Anne quote about this? There are so many useful Anne quotes, though I usually only half remember them xD (Though these aren’t very walkable woods, so they are more decorative than anything :P) Ooh, maybe you could do that next year? Because I’d love to see that! I think it’s so cool to get to see the differences/similarities between different places people live 😀
That is indeed a really truly acorn! There are a couple big oak trees leaning right over the grass, which obligingly drop quite a few of ’em down for the squirrels’ convenience 😀
We have squirrels at our house, but I was inordinately DELIGHTED to see them in your post. Something about those little guys just makes me happy 😀

In terms of recommendations, I’ve been listening to lots of Ella Fitzgerald songs (I mean, the same three on repeat… I can’t vouch for everything of hers xD). They seem very autumnal to me. Happy autumn!

I’ve been listening to “Misty” and “Summertime” a lot – are there any others that you would recommend?
I’ve heard Summertime before, but not Misty (at least not her version)…I’m pulling it up to listen right now! My favorite song of hers is “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” but I also really like “These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You),” and “Lullaby of the Leaves” is a fun one that is explicitly autumnal. 😀

For a movie recommendation, “Lorna Doone” (particularly the 2000 version) gives off major autumn vibes. I recently watched it with a friend and I forgot how much I liked it.
