The lovely Autumn of Shades of Art has tagged me for an autumn tag challenge! Autumn is my favorite season, and blog tags are always enjoyable, so this is doubly welcome. I do have another (very fun-looking) tag that I was tagged for earlier than this, but I figured I’d start with this one since it’s fairly time-sensitive.
Here are the rules for the tag:
- Download the cover photo and use it for your post
- Acknowledge the person who tagged you
- Tag others and comment on their blog to let them know!
- Slip into autumn vibes
Now to accomplish the last rule on the list by answering the tag questions!
1. If autumn isn’t your favourite season, what is? And if autumn is your favourite season, why?
I like every season as it arrives, but (as aforementioned) I do think autumn is my overall favorite. Perhaps ore than anything else I love the indescribably beautiful and bittersweet wistfulness of it. And of course there are the beautiful colors of the leaves, the cooler temperatures, and the knowledge of Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up.

2. What is your favourite thing that you do each autumn?
I don’t know…I don’t feel like I have very many regular autumn traditions. Just spending time outside, noticing the leaves before they all fall, taking walks around the neighborhood…though that’s not a very exciting answer. I do always enjoy pulling my fall/winter clothes out and taking an inventory of everything before autumn officially starts, but it would be a bit much to say that that’s my favorite thing I do each autumn.
3. What are a couple of your favourite autumn memories?
When I was younger we would often go to the county fair every September, and that was always a lot of fun. An especially fun memory is the time we watched the pig race; it was rather amusing, because the pigs were very leisurely about the whole thing and evidently had no idea that they were racing. In fact, one of them fell down at one point and a couple of the others went back to check on him. It was pretty cute.
Also – I’m pretty sure we usually did this in late summer, but it feels like an autumnal-ish activity so I’ll mention it anyway – we used to go blueberry picking most years, which was always so much fun. The best part, we all agreed, was that they would take you to the section of blueberry field you wanted via golf cart. (The rest of it was fun too, though.)
4. What book most reminds you of the autumn? Movie?
It’s funny, but the only books that really stand out in my mind as especially autumnal are children’s books. Hmm…I think I associate it more with February, but I suppose Following the Phoenix by Meriol Trevor is autumnal, in a chilly-rainy-autumn-day sort of way. I also sort of associate Random Harvest by James Hilton with autumn, since I just bought it recently on a scenic trip to the library with Noddy and have been reading it this autumn. And even apart from those connotations, it does just seem autumnal-ish so far – introspective and wistful and such. (I haven’t finished it – nor even gotten that far – so I can’t tell you yet if I recommend it.)
I can’t really think of any autumnal movies. Why is this such a hard question for me? This isn’t technically a movie, but quite a few Jeeves and Wooster episodes feel autumnal, so I suppose I’ll go with that.

5. What is your favourite drink for this season?
Coffee, if I’m being honest – it’s my favorite drink for most seasons. But I also like making cocoa as the days get cooler, and sometimes in autumn I’ll have seasonal teas (like cinnamon apple, caramel, &c.).
6. What is one new thing that you want to do this autumn?
Oh dear, I don’t have much of an answer for this either. This isn’t a very major thing, but I’m planning on watching Holiday Inn for the first time around Thanksgiving…I suppose that sort of counts.
7. Do you decorate for the season? If so, how? If not, how come?
Yes, we do. Not that much, but we typically have pumpkins and pinecones and various fall decorations for the front doorstep, and we’ll often put cute leaf decorations around the house too (though we haven’t gotten around to that yet this year).
8. Thanksgiving is a couple of months away; what is your favourite way to celebrate? (I think most of my blogger friends are American. 😂) If not, skip this one.
Well, we have a turkey dinner, of course, and we often try to get to a morning Mass as well. Sometimes (well, last year, anyway) I tried spending a set amount of time writing down things I was grateful for, which was nice. We also have a tradition going back as far as I can remember of watching the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving, and it wouldn’t feel like a proper Thanksgiving to me without it.
9. What colour most makes you think of autumn?
Probably red, but the whole range of oranges and yellows and reds are autumnal to me. One of my favorite autumnal colors is that really vivid orange that some leaves get.

10. Type up a list of ten words or names (i.e. White Chicken Chili) that encapsulate the season of autumn for you.
pumpkins
frost
falling leaves
squirrels
bittersweet nostalgia
warm colors
fires
hush
chilly breezes
tea
Well, thank you for that tag, Autumn – I think it’s fair to say that your first try creating a blog challenge was a smashing success!

How fun that Autumn created an autumn tag! I like your cute story about the pig falling down during the race and the others checking on him. The dog show sounds like a sweet tradition! Thanks for the tag 🙂
I know, right? Such an autumnal tag in every way. xD And you’re very welcome!
Ohh, the glorious coziness of the pictures… This was such a comfortably satisfying post to read, beautifully done, Lizzie!
I’m going to echo Stephanie and say that is just too cute about the pig race, I’ve got a mental pic of it and everything😄 I actually got to see one myself for the first time this year, actually, though the pigs were being more lively (also dusty. Very dusty…) than adorable in ours! Whiiich was probably due to the fact that kiddos were teamed up with them and running right alongside them 😛 I feel like it could very easily be the cause, anyway🤔
Ooh, I can see that making it much more hectic…probably the excitement of the kiddos made the pigs more excited than they’d be otherwise. We used to have a separate pig scramble as well as the race, where the kids would try to catch the piglets and then get to keep them….I recall that getting much more exciting xD
Ooh, this was so lovely! That pig race sounds so cute and hilarious! And a county fair sounds so wonderfully like Farmer Boy or a book of that ilk!
Jeeves and Wooster is very autumnal… “There is a fog, sir. If you will recollect, we are now in Autumn – season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.” And anticipating Christmas is something very fun about autumn, too, isn’t it?
Heh, it was rather lovely and Ingalls-ish 😀
It is…though I feel like I associate a lot of the individual stories with summer.
“Season of what?”
“Mists, sir, and mellow fruitfulness.”
“Oh? Yes. Yes, I see.”
Yes, it is! And thinking up Christmas presents – I still have a couple people I need to plan for, speaking of which…
Oh, Christmas presents… I have some planning to do, though I’m only just recovering from a spate of birthdays (not that birthdays are a thing from which one needs to recover, but you know what I mean!). Do you ever have a long string of birthdays, or are yours more spread out?
“Would you prefer it if we were to term the protagonists A and B, sir?”
“Yes, or North and South.”
“A and B is more customary, sir.”
“Yes, well, you know best, Jeeves. Very well. Now then, A is male and B female. You follow me so far?”
“You have been lucidity itself, sir.”
Unrelated, but amusing.
We do indeed have most of our birthdays all in a clump – “The Birthday Season,” we call it. It’s funny how often that seems to happen, isn’t it?
Heh, that’s a great bit too. xD So many of the Bertie and Jeeves conversations are just priceless.
Thank you for tagging us!
You’re very welcome! 😀
Lovely answers!! I think you’ll enjoy Holiday Inn. I hadn’t watched it until a few years ago, but it is now one my family watches between Thanksgiving and Christmas since we save the *really* Christmas-y ones for after Christmas Day.
We put little fall leaf decorations around the house too! 😀 <3 So fun. And what a cute pig "race". XD Reminds me of something from "Charlotte's Web" because of the fair. <3
I’m looking forward to it – I’m glad to hear you recommend it! I’ve heard about it quite a lot, and since I’ve been on a big Fred Astaire kick of late (though unfortunately I understand that his character in this one is not particularly likeable!) I decided it was time to finally watch it. Yes, we save the really Christmas-y ones for Christmas itself as well…Miracle on 34th Street is the main one that we often watch nearer to Thanksgiving.
How fun that you do that too. <3 And aw, I can see that!
Such a fun tag, Lizzie – I loved reading your answers. 🙂
I can’t wait to complete this one!
Thank you! I look forward to seeing your answers (:
